The Tribeca film festival has announced the first wave of programming for its 15th edition, including in-depth conversations featuring Tina Fey and Tom Hanks.
The pair are among the actors, artists, musicians and writers taking part in the New York festival’s newly announced platform, Tribeca Talks: Storytellers, a series of discussions that will take place throughout the festival.
The other events scheduled to occur at the festival’s Hub venue in Manhattan include an all-day summit on 19 April dedicated to new and innovative ideas, headed by Richard Branson and Regina Dugan, of Google’s ATAP lab; the world premiere of Invasion!, the first interactive virtual reality film from Baobab Studios; and the juried section Storyscapes, which showcases exhibits in technology and interactive storytelling.
Additionally, the festival announced that the cinematic virtual reality outfit Felix & Paul Studios will act as the Hub’s “featured creator” for 2016. A selection of the company’s work, including Inside Impact: East Africa, with Bill Clinton, Cirque du Soleil’s Inside the Box of Kurios, and Nomads: Maasai will be featured throughout the space during the run of the festival.
“When we started the Festival 15 years ago, we did so with the belief that film and culture had the power to unite a community,” said Jane Rosenthal, the co-founder of the festival. “That has continued to drive our mission, but as Tribeca has grown, so has our definition of storytelling. We are looking forward to hosting some of the most exciting creative minds in the world at our Hub this year and helping bring their experiences and views to life for our audiences.”
Additional programs will be revealed in the coming months. The festival runs 13-24 April 2016 in New York.
