Trial pedestrianisation of busy Dublin streets gets under way

A trial pedestrianisation of two busy shopping streets starts in the capital on Friday.

Capel Street and Parliament Street will be made traffic-free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6.30pm to 11.30pm for six weekends.

The move is part of Dublin City Council’s Office of City Recovery to support businesses and facilitate outdoor dining.

The council said it will “assess the outcome” once the trial is complete.

Parking on Capel Street will be allowed until 6pm each day of the trial.

Local bus diversions will be in place.
