The trial of a man accused of causing the death of a retired Rutherglen school teacher has been deferred until 2020.
Andrew John Reed, of Westmacott Street, Hexham, is charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of Isabel Gilchrist on June 25 last year.
The 27-year-old is also accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving to Mrs Gilchrist’s husband, Daniel.
He will face a further charge of perverting the course of justice, by removing a vehicle and changing a tyre following the fatal collision, when the trial gets under way on February 17, 2020.
It was initially scheduled to begin last Thursday, August 8.
Mrs Gilchrist, 63, died following the collision at Rivermead, in Kielder, Northumberland, while Mr Gilchrist, 64, was treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after being airlifted from the scene.
A religious studies teacher at Stonelaw High, Mrs Gilchrist was popular with students and staff alike, and was renowned for her passion for the school’s partnership with Ikusasalethu High in South Africa.
She helped scores of young Scots travel to Mtubatuba, while co-ordinating the funding of school uniforms for children studying there from her Rutherglen classroom.
