Trial date set for man charged with murder at home

A man is to go on trial later this month charged with murdering a 50-year-old man at a house in Radstock.

Meshach Caven-Thompson, from Bath, was charged with murdering Philip Jones at a property in Huish Court, Writhlington, in the early hours of June 16 last year.

The 33-year-old, of Abbey Church Yard, Bath, appeared via video link before Bristol Crown Court today (April 9).

The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC adjourned the case for trial set for April 29.

A post mortem examination found Mr Jones died of multiple stab wounds.

A friend of Mr Jones, Radstock town councillor Nick Toogood, said: “Bill was honestly a lovely guy. A real local character. He lived on his own but he was great friends with everybody, including my son.

"He really looked out for him. And he looked out for others generally.”

Specialist police officers have provided Mr Jones’ family with support.
