The Seattle Seahawks are not the only professional sports team in the state of Washington that Russell Wilson has played for.
In 2010, three years before he lead the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win, Wilson was a minor league baseball player for the Tri-City Dust Devils, a short-season A-ball team located in Pasco, Washington.
The Dust Devils have not forgotten about Wilson’s brief time with the team, as they are hosting a Russell Wilson bobblehead giveaway on Friday evening.
Wilson was a dual-sport athlete in college, and ended up getting drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. His first stop in the minor leagues was with the Dust Devils.
In 32 games, the 21-year-old second baseman hit .230 with two home runs and four stolen bases. He played 61 games with single-A Asheville the following season before (wisely) deciding to focus on his football career.
Although Wilson has not played professional baseball since then, his rights have been traded twice – once from Colorado to the Rangers and then from the Rangers to the Yankees, where he appeared at spring training over the last two seasons.
Wilson and the rest of the Seahawks will report for training camp – football’s version of spring training – on July 24.
