Treyarch is making big changes to Ranked Play in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 with the upcoming Season 4 update, including the removal of hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR) from the game’s Skill Rating (SR) system.
Lawrence Metten, Associate Director of Design at Treyarch, revealed that the studio has “completely overhauled” the Black Ops 7 Ranked Play SR system ahead of the Season 4 update.
According to Metten, players will no longer be affected by hidden MMR calculations or background variables outside of their control. Instead, SR gains and losses will be determined purely by a player’s rank, match performance, and how they compare against others in the lobby.
“No more hidden MMR or variables beyond your direct control—how your rank and performance stack up against others in the match is now the only thing that impacts your SR,” Metten said.
Treyarch also confirmed that BO7 Ranked Play will feature a new Post-Match Summary screen starting in Season 4. The updated summary is designed to clearly explain every SR adjustment after each game, giving players a detailed breakdown of points earned or lost.
The developer said a full breakdown of the upcoming SR changes within the revamped Ranked Play system will be shared closer to the Season 4 update release.

Black Ops 7 Season 4 is expected to launch on June 4, 2026, following the expiration of the current Season 3 Battle Pass. The Season 4 patch is also anticipated to introduce additional content across Multiplayer, Zombies, Co-Op/Endgame, and Warzone, including new events, fresh seasonal rewards, and potential crossovers, alongside weapon balance changes and the Ranked Play overhaul.
The BO7 Ranked Play meta has already shifted in recent weeks after the MPC-25 was unrestricted last month and quickly became the meta SMG. Meanwhile, some players are still hoping Treyarch adds another viable assault rifle to ranked matches, as the M15 Mod 0 remains the only AR choice in the current meta.
