It was assumed to be the case, but now we have the official word. Ohio State running back Trey Sermon took to Twitter Sunday morning to announce that he will be entering the 2020 NFL draft.
Sermon came to Columbus from Oklahoma as a graduate transfer in the offseason, and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. After the Big Ten football season got shelved, he had to be wondering what turn of events his career would take. Turns out, it took a pretty good one.
Despite Ohio State only playing five regular-season games, Sermon hit his stride at the end of the year. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 215-pounder ran for over 100 yards against Michigan State, then he blew up, going for an OSU record 331 yards against Northwestern in the Big Ten championship game, then 193 yards against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.
The result has catapulted Sermon up the NFL draft big boards, and you can’t blame him for taking advantage of his stock being as high as it’s ever been. He may have been an adopted member of the Ohio State brotherhood, but he’ll always be a Buckeye.
