Trey Flowers to sign with Lions, wasn’t interested in Jets

Another pass rusher is off the market and the Jets missed out.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions for about $16-$17 million per year.

The Jets were seriously interested in Flowers, but the feeling was not mutual. According to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes, Flowers shortened his list to the Lions and Dolphins before ultimately choosing Detroit.

With Flowers off the board, the Jets will have to look elsewhere for pass rush help. A name that has been linked to the Jets is Vikings outside linebacker Anthony Barr. He is coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he had 55 tackles, three sacks and two pass defenses.

New York can also look for help in the draft for pass rushers with the No. 3 overall pick. This draft class is loaded with them. Ideally, general manager Mike Maccagnan would like to add a pass rushers in both free agency and via the draft, though.
