Trey Burton suffers calf injury during Colts scrimmage

Tight end Trey Burton suffered a calf injury during the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp scrimmage on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Starting tight end Jack Doyle sat out the scrimmage on Saturday likely as a precaution with his neck injury. This allowed Burton to see some work as the starting move tight end, but the soft tissue injury took him out of the game during the first half of the scrimmage.

The Colts are pretty thin at the tight end position entering 2020. If Burton has to miss time, it will be a relatively significant blow to the offense given the strong training camp he was having.

Burton was seemingly carving out a role in the passing game throughout training camp and given his history with Frank Reich, he’s likely to have a role.

It will be somewhat significant if Burton has to miss time, and it is likely that Mo Alie-Cox and undrafted rookie Ferrod Green will fill the void.
