Trey Burton isn’t expecting a warm welcome from Eagles fans in return to Philly

When the Chicago Bears head to Philadelphia to play the Eagles, it will be a homecoming for tight end Trey Burton.

Burton is a hero in Philadelphia for his role in helping bring a Super Bowl championship to the Eagles in one of the city’s most legendary plays, the Philly Special.

But even the Philly Special might not be enough to garner Burton a warm welcome in Philadelphia.

“I have no clue,” Burton said, via the Chicago Tribune. “They didn’t cheer for Santa, so I doubt they’ll cheer for me.”

Burton expects that his emotions will be “high,” as he returns to the place where he played for the first four years of his career.

This will be Burton’s first time playing against his former team, as he missed last year’s Wild Card Playoff game with a groin injury. He would require sports hernia surgery in the offseason.

Burton still hasn’t fully recovered from a groin injury suffered before the season opener. He has just 14 catches for 84 yards, and he’s only now starting to feel okay physically.

“To a degree,” Burton said. “I’m just happy to be out there and playing, honestly.”
