Trevor Sinclair waxes lyrical about Bernardo Silva ahead of scoring for Man City vs Burnley

Former Manchester City wingerTrevor Sinclair waxed lyrical about Bernardo Silva ahead of him scoring in City's clash with Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, describing him as an "unselfish player."

Despite being heavily linked with an exit from the club throughout the summer transfer window, the Portuguese international has become a key figure in Pep Guardiola's plans so far this season.

Including Saturday afternoon's tussle with the Clarets, Bernardo, who joined City from AS Monaco back in 2017, has started seven of the Blues' eight Premier League matches so far this term, highlighting his importance to his manager's thinking.

Operating as a central-midfielder nowadays, opposed to a right-sided winger, the 27-year-old has been nothing short of outstanding, striking up a solid understanding in midfield alongside both Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.

For former City and England man Sinclair, it is Bernardo's unselfishness and hard work that makes him such an attractive viewing.

Sinclair told City+: "I was probably like most fans. When the rumours, in the summer, were going around that he could be leaving the football club, I was gutted. You only have to watch a little clip of him in training or in the warm-up and he just brings a smile to your face.

"He loves football and is passionate about it.

"I remember watching him for the first time in the Monaco game in the Champions League. I could not believe how he good he was.

"He is almost like a little leaf; the distance that he travels and his willingness to work tirelessly for the team... he is such an unselfish player. You need players like that."

The Portugal international's strike against Burnley was his second of the season, with the last coming in the 1-0 triumph over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last month.
