Trevor Sinclair apologises for controversial Liverpool FC tweet after Man City beat Burnley

Former Manchester City attacker Trevor Sinclair has apologised for a tweet he sent on Tuesday night where he labelled Liverpool 'bin dippers' after the Blues beat Burnley.

Pep Guardiola's side have cut the gap to eight points with a 4-1 victory at Turf Moor ahead of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night thanks to two goals from Gabriel Jesus and one a piece from Rodri and Riyad Mahrez.

Jurgen Klopp's side are unbeaten in the league this season and with City dropping points Guardiola found his side 11 points off the league leaders after 14 games ramping up the pressure on the Blues.

But a dominant performance against Burnley has given the squad an added boost of confidence and Sinclair, was with with City between 2003-2007, was clearly excited by the reuslt.

However, the former City winger caused controversy with the tweet he sent after the match where he had a jibe at Klopp's side.

In reference to City chasing Liverpool down in the title race, Sinclair tweeted: "Bin dippers we’re coming for you."

Sinclair was criticised by Twitter users for the tweet but on Tuesday night could clearly not see any issue with what he had said as he replied to one user saying they were being 'senstivite.'

However, by Wednesday morning the player turned pundit had deleted the tweet and sent out an apology.

"To any fan that was offended by what I wrote last night I apologise. It was a throw away line regarding closing the gap," he wrote.

"It wasn’t my intention to offend anyone, especially from a social stance. I’m a working class lad and understand how it’s been taken. Sorry."

Liverpool can restore their 11 point lead over City at the top of the table if they beat Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
