Trevor Sinclair apologises after calling Liverpool 'bin dippers'

Trevor Sinclair has issued an apology for an offensive tweet sent after Manchester City's Premier League win over Burnley.

Defending champions City ran out comfortabke 4-1 winners at Turf Moor on Tuesday night courtesy of Gabriel Jesus' double and further goals from Rodri and Riyad Mahrez to move back to second and within eight points of leaders Liverpool, who are in action in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday.

Such a win prompted ex-City winger and former England international Sinclair, who played for the club for four years between 2003-07, to tweet after the final whistle: "Bin dippers we're coming for you."

That tweet has since been deleted, with Sinclair posting again to apologise early on Wednesday morning.

"To any fan that was offended by what I wrote last night I apologize," he said. "It was a throw away line regarding closing the gap.

"It wasn’t my intention to offend anyone, especially from a social stance. I’m a working class lad and understand how it’s been taken. Sorry."
