After having surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in February, first overall pick Trevor Lawrence will be free of restrictions in training camp according to NFL Network’s Judy Batista. This news comes after Lawrence was restricted during organized team activities and minicamp, but no such issues will hold him back in his first-ever training camp.
“Remember they were holding him back a little bit in OTAs and minicamp a little bit because he was recovering from the offseason shoulder surgery,” Battista said on ‘NFL NOW.’ “It was his non-throwing shoulder, so that’s the good news, but they were still restricting him.
“No restrictions anymore when he gets to training camp. It is going to be full-go.”
During his post-minicamp break, Lawrence was still productive and worked out with teammates both in Jacksonville, then later at Clemson. However, his status and workload were unclear, but he certainly looked healthy in both videos, which was good to see after he sustained an additional hamstring injury in minicamp.
It was first revealed that Lawrence needed surgery on his non-throwing labrum back on Feb. 5. As a result, he decided to have his pro day earlier than expected (Feb. 12) so he could then proceed to have surgery on Feb. 16. That proved to be the right decision as he is now ready to take the field for his first training camp with no limitations.
The upcoming weeks will be important for Lawrence if the Jags are to take a significant leap forward from their 1-15 season. Throughout the process, there certainly won’t be a shortage of coverage on Lawrence as all three of the Jags’ preseason games will be aired live nationally.
