Trevor Lawrence returns to practice for light work on Thursday

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was back on the practice field Thursday, three days after suffering an ankle injury during the team’s Monday night loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lawrence, who sat out the team’s Wednesday practice, didn’t do much in his first day back on the practice fields, skipping most drills and only lightly throwing.

On Tuesday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said the quarterback suffered a high ankle sprain and that testing showed “everything is stable, everything looks good.” A day later, Lawrence said “I feel a lot better than I would’ve thought I’d feel.”

Playing on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns still looks like an uphill climb, but Lawrence followed a similar recovery schedule earlier in the year when he suffered a knee sprain. After being listed as not practicing Monday, the quarterback did light work Tuesday and Wednesday before playing in a Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints.

Lawrence, 24, hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career. If he’s unable to play Sunday, 30-year-old veteran C.J. Beathard will be the team’s starter against the Browns.
