Often times when a team has the No. 1 pick, their first overall draft selection is heading into a situation where the cupboard is bare, but Trevor Lawrence doesn’t believe he’s headed in that type of situation with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After arriving at the Jags’ facility for the first time, Lawrence told Jaguars.com’s Ashlyn Sullivan that he felt the team already had great players, and as a result, he felt he’ll be going into a situation that’s “not normal” for rookie quarterbacks.
“We have a lot of great players. You need a team to win. It’s not one guy. You have to have the pieces around and we have a lot of great pieces here … It’s going to be cool to see this grow and build and I think the best is in front of us.”@FieldsCadillac | #DUUUVAL pic.twitter.com/jzjb0b3fQg

This may not be a case where Lawrence is repeating the sentiments of Urban Meyer, but he may be on to something. Offensively, he’ll be joining a unit with James Robinson, D.J. Chark Jr., Laviska Shenault Jr., Marvin Jones, Travis Etienne, and Collin Johnson. Additionally, he has an offensive coordinator who has proven he can coach up a young quarterback in Darrell Bevell.
Of course, Lawrence and his teammates will have to put the work in on the field, but on paper, the Jags’ offense looks capable enough to be a unit in the top half of the league. The football community will get their first glimpse at him at the end of the week with rookie mini-camp coming up on May 14-16, which will allow him to get his feet wet with the Jags’ new staff.
