Trevor Lawrence Chuckled While Explaining Why He Didn’t Use a Cart After Suffering Ankle Injury

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence addressed a viral moment that was a heavy topic of debate from Jacksonville’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals on Monday at TIAA Bank Field.

Shortly after sustaining an ankle sprain, cameras captured Lawrence slowly limping to the locker room with help from two team employees. Fans on social media curiously wondered why Lawrence didn’t take a cart to transport back to the locker room.

The quarterback answered Wednesday that, yes, the Jaguars did have a cart available.

“We talked about getting a cart, and I was going to get a cart,” Lawrence told reporters. “I’m standing there, I’m already on the sideline, the tunnel is right there. I just wanted to get off the field. I didn’t know what was going on with my ankle. I felt like I could get off.

“Once I got in [the tunnel], I’m like, ‘This is a pretty long walk.’ But I was already there, and they asked again if I wanted a cart. I’m like, ‘No, we’re going to make it the whole way there.’

“... Of course we have carts. We have everything we need. I was the one that didn’t choose to take one. You guys can put that on me, maybe that was dumb, maybe I should have taken one.”

Lawrence missed practice Wednesday but was seen walking in the team facility without a boot on his injured right ankle. The 24-year-old told reporters he doesn’t know if he’ll play Sunday against the Browns.

If Lawrence can’t play, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard likely would start against Cleveland in his place. Beathard completed 9 of 10 pass attempts for 63 yards while filling in for the injured Lawrence against Cincinnati.
