Jan. 06--It might be understandable if Penguins defenseman Trevor Daley was upset about his time with the Blackhawks.
After spending most of his career with the Stars as a top four defenseman, Daley was stuck on the bottom pair and his minutes reflected that.
But Daley, who the Hawks traded for defenseman Rob Scuderi on Dec. 14, said he has little to complain about when it comes to his brief stint with the team.
"I wish I had bad things to say about that team, but I don't. The guys were unbelievable," Daley said Tuesday before the Hawks took on the Penguins in the first of back-to-back games. "I enjoyed my time there and I learned a lot. I went in there with an open mind, figure out what these guys have been doing right all these years. I think I took a lot out of it, for the short time I was there."
Daley averaged 14 minutes, 46 seconds of ice time during 29 games with the Hawks. He is up to 19:29 in nine games with the Penguins entering Tuesday.
Daley said he wasn't sure why things did not work out in Chicago, but said the drop in ice time was a little difficult to take.
"I wish I had those answers," Daley said. "I'd probably answer it for you if I had it. But I have no idea."
Daley has had to move his family twice within the last four months, but he -- and his family -- have tried to take the trade in stride.
"I guess it's a part of the business I never got to experience until the last four months," Daley said. "We're so fortunate that we get to play hockey for a living. If my dad had to switch cities to go play hockey for a living, I'm sure he'd get up and move us all."
No Panik yet: Absent from the Hawks roster Tuesday night was winger Richard Panik, who the Hawks acquired from the Maple Leafs on Sunday. Coach Joel Quenneville said Panik was not with the team yet because of a visa issue and was hopeful Panik could get the problem resolved soon.
