League stalwart Trevor Croly has agreed to join the Republic of Ireland Under-21 coaching ticket as assistant coach.
And Mirror Sport understands he will continue to work as Bohemians’ lead academy coach during his spell with the national team.
Croly last week emerged as a contender to fill the vacancy left on Jim Crawford’s staff following John O’Shea’s elevation to Stephen Kenny’s senior team.
But a deal has now been reached for Croly to come in for the Iceland friendly at Turner’s Cross on March 26, with discussions taking place on a longer term arrangement beyond that.
Croly is widely regarded as one of the country’s best coaches and was Keith Long’s long-term assistant at Bohs until Long’s departure last season.
The Dubliner, 48, also had spells managing Shamrock Rovers and Bray Wanderers and held assistant roles at St Pat’s, Rovers and Longford Town.
With Ireland, he will work alongside Derry City No 2 Alan Reynolds who is a key member of Crawford’s staff.
Ireland’s Under-21s have been drawn in a European Championship qualifying group with Italy, Norway, Turkey, Latvia and San Marino.
