Trevoh Chalobah 'identified' as Chelsea transfer target replacement amid Virgil van Dijk claim

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been named as a potential transfer target for Inter Milan. The Italian giants are seeking out a list of replacements for Milan Skriniar's likely exit.

Skriniar has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the past six months following Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen's departures to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively. And despite Wesley Fofana's arrival from Leicester City, the Slovakian defender was tipped to move to England in the summer, but no bid was made.

Fast forward two months, and the future of the 27-year-old remains unclear for both parties as he edges closer to the end of his contract at the San Siro. Just like Real Madrid did with Rudiger in the summer, clubs around Europe will be monitoring the situation closely to structure a deal to sign the defender on a free at the end of the season.

Chelsea already have the option of using Romelu Lukaku to sign Skriniar, but reports from Italy have now reported that Chalobah has been identified as a possible replacement for the central defender. Calciomercato have said that the 23-year-old could be a long-term acquisition for Simone Inzaghi.

Chalobah has proved his quality over the previous 12 months and has put in a series of impressive performances in the Blues' defensive three, earning comparisons to Virgil van Dijk. After learning his trade in loan spells with Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient, Chalobah has made 37 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Despite the link to the San Siro, it's unlikely that Todd Boehely will accept allowing the Cobham product to leave without Skriniar coming the opposite way. However, should the possibility of a swap deal plus fee be entertained by Inter, the tables could well and truly change.
