Trevor Carson extends Motherwell stay as Steelmen fend off Aberdeen interest

Trevor Carson has signed a new two-year deal with Motherwell.

The Northern Irish international had pre-contract offers from Livingston and St Mirren and was also attracting strong interest from Aberdeen.

The 31-year-old, however, has decided to extend his three year stay at Fir Park.

Carson has lost the No. 1 slot to Mark Gillespie but his fellow keeper is out of contract at the end of the season.

Gillespie has so far stalled on signing a new deal of his own.

Motherwell will not run with two highly experienced goalkeepers next season and it is likely Carson will regain the gloves then, if not earlier.

Carson only lost his place after a freak blood clot incident that he suffered while away on international duty.

It almost cost him his career but now he is back to full fitness and looking to kick on.

Motherwell signed Carson from Hartlepool but in his first season he was the subject of a failed bid from champions Celtic.
