Trevoh Chalobah transfer stance clear as Inter and Newcastle United register Chelsea interest

Trevoh Chalobah is open to leaving Chelsea this summer ahead of a new chapter under Mauricio Pochettino, football.london understands.

The 23-year-old defender has immense competition in his position at the club, with the likes of Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva, Benoît Badiashile and the returning Levi Colwill. A source has informed football.london that Pochettino wants four centre-backs to depend on in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah appears to be low down that list and that is why Chelsea are open to allowing him to leave the club. However, Chalobah is not currently desperate to leave Chelsea and will not actively push for a move away, with there still being five years remaining on his contract.

If the player and club cannot find a solution for Chalobah elsewhere then both parties will be happy to continue working together. Chalobah, though, has got his eyes on next year's European Championships, so first-team football is important at this stage of his career.

Newcastle United are the latest club to register an interest in the Cobham graduate and are considering making a move for him. Chalobah has also held talks with Inter Milan in recent weeks over a possible move but nothing is advanced as of yet.

Chalobah made 33 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions last season, where he provided reliable cover for both centre-back and right-back. He, however, struggled to nail down a place in the first-team.

With the return of Colwill to the squad, it makes things even more difficult for Chalobah. football.london understands Chelsea will block any further offers for Colwill with Brighton very keen on signing the England international on a permanent basis.

Liverpool have also expressed an interest in Colwill but the Blues see him as the future of their defence and are determined to tie him down to a new long-term contract. The player himself is seeking assurances over his role in the first-team and will hold talks with Pochettino in the near future.
