Trevoh Chalobah handed new Chelsea role by Graham Potter in behind-closed-doors win

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been handed a new role by manager Graham Potter.

The 23-year-old last term enjoyed a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel, making 30 first-team appearances after previously impressing on loan in the Championship and Ligue 1.

Chalobah has played just one of eight games so far this season - a 2-1 win over Leicester with Kalidou Koulibaly suspended - but new manager Potter appears to have a new role in mind for the centre-back.

According to The Athletic, Chalobah was deployed in midfield during a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brighton.

With many first-teamers on international duty, Chalobah was given a chance to impress in Jorginho's role, with Conor Gallagher and Denis Zakaria either side of him during a 2-1 victory.

Chalobah is likely to get more opportunities in midfield, with the competition for places less fierce and N'Golo Kante still struggling with fitness. The Blues have 13 games to play before the mid-season World Cup break on November 15.
