Trespassers on the railway line cause major Merseyrail delays

Trespassers on Merseyrail train tracks are causing major delays this evening.

Merseyrail has told commuters to expect major disruption this evening (Wednesday, October 13) due to trespassers on the line at Bootle Oriel Road.

Services on the Southport and Hunts Cross lines have been suspended by the train operator while they deal with the incident.

Delays and disruption is expected until around 7.45pm.

A spokesperson from Merseyrail said: "Cancellations to services at Bootle Oriel Road due to trespassers on the railway at Bootle Oriel Road the Southport and Hunts Cross line is disrupted.

"Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 7.45pm.

"If you have been affected by today's incident you may be entitled to a refund or compensation. Please visit https://www.merseyrail.org/contact-us/refunds-and-compensation.aspx for further information.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."
