Trent Williams’ side of the story finally sees the light of day, and it’s ugly

At long last, Trent Williams’ side of the story has seen the light of day.

Over the past year, the Pro Bowl left tackle for the Washington Redskins has been holding out from the team, and nobody was 100% sure what the reason was. There was public knowledge of Williams having a growth on his scalp removed, and it was well documented that he had some grievances with the medical staff in Washington, but as far as a cut-and-dry reason for the holdout, there was none.

Until Thursday afternoon, when Trent Williams finally sat down with the media and spoke for 18 minutes.

While sitting in front of his locker at the Redskins facilities, Williams revealed that the growth he had removed from his scalp was cancerous, and he feared for his life when finding out about that. The distrust of the Washington medical staff came from this diagnosis, as they had been monitoring it for six years, assuring him that it was minor the whole time. Because of this, Williams says that he lost all trust with the organization’s medical staff.

For Williams, who is entering the last year on his contract in 2020, he said that playing any more football without guaranteed money on his deal is crazy, as he could be cut at any time. He went on to say on Thursday that he is unsure if he will ever play for the Redskins again, and that he “hasn’t asked them for a dime.”

While Washington searches for a new helmet that doesn’t cause Williams discomfort, which he reportedly felt during his physical on Wednesday, the left tackle will be in the building, continuing to attend meetings and be a part of the team.

It’s unlikely that he will play for the Redskins, though. He made that much clear on Thursday.
