Trent Williams holdout overshadows whether he’s medically cleared to play

As expected, Trent Williams doesn’t figure to be at Washington Redskins training camp this week.

Not only is Williams seeking a new deal, but there is also a reported rift between the two parties over how the team handled his recent medical situation.

That medical situation stemmed around a growth on his head, and Williams took issue with how the team handled it.

So while the headline story here is a holdout, keep in mind the public doesn’t even know if Williams is medically cleared to get back to playing football or what the timetable might be, which is something NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport pointed out during his reporting on the matter.

Williams reporting to camp would be good for all parties, especially if it means they agree to a new contract. But even that doesn’t necessarily mean Williams will be back to help play the most important position of all for the unit.
