Trent Williams asks NFLPA to not pursue investigation into team wrongdoing

Though it’s been several days without any new updates to the Trent Williams situation in Washington, it’s still going on, and it’s still weird.

On Monday morning, it was announced that the Redskins Pro Bowl left tackle asked the NFL Players Association to not pursue and investigation into the situation, as he is upset that Washington leaked medical details in the past.

After Williams’ request, the NFLPA assured him that they would not participate in a joint investigation if the 31-year-old was not in favor of it.

This is an interesting development to the story because it seems obvious that if Williams is in the right, and the Redskins are in the wrong, an investigation would reveal as much. However, it was of Craig Hoffman’s belief that for Trent, there is a major desire to get this matter behind him, avoiding as much turmoil by all parties as possible.

The entire situation began six years ago when the Washington medical staff began monitoring a growth on Williams’ scalp, although they assured him that it was nothing serious. Down the line, it continued to grow, and about a year ago, Williams was told that it was cancerous and that he’d have to get it removed. Williams says this is what caused the distrust with the Redskins’ medical staff, but the team has offered a different version of events and asked both the league’s Management Council and NFLPA to review the situation.

It is unclear whether or not Williams will play for the Redskins again this season, but that is becoming increasingly harder to see happening, especially after Williams talked with the media last week and told reporters that he has no trust in the organization.
