Trent Taylor won’t wear A.J. Green’s No. 18 jersey number with Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals agreed to terms with free-agent wideout Trent Taylor to start the week.

That news actually caused some angst among Bengals fans because Taylor popped up at rookie minicamp wearing the No. 18 — the jersey number that belonged to a guy by the name of A.J. Green.

But Taylor, after putting ink to paper, got assigned the No. 11 and that’s what he’ll wear over the summer and into the season if he makes the final roster.

In other words, fans can rest easy about the jersey-number thing and instead focus on the fact Taylor is a versatile presence who can especially help on special teams, which the Bengals sorely needed after Darrin Simmons’ unit lost Alex Erickson this offseason.

And as for the No. 18, there’s no reason for the Bengals to ever let anyone wear it again.
