Trent Taylor was far from the biggest name the Cincinnati Bengals added this offseason.
In fact, he didn’t make a ton of buzz until fans saw him temporarily wearing the No. 18 of A.J. Green at a practice — then he was on the radar.
But fast foward to training camp, Taylor has the No. 11 on and keeps making massive plays all over the field.
It isn’t hard to find Taylor listed as the “MVP” of multiple practices by different outlets. He’s not only making big plays in the base offense with different quarterbacks, he’s looking like the guy in the lead to return kicks on special teams.
And he’s not shy about the task at hand, either.
“I’ve got to come in and win a job. Being the new guy on the block, I’ve got to earn everything that’s been given to me,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I’ve got to keep fighting and keep putting up one good day after another.”
To be clear, this isn’t anything new for the 27-year-old Taylor, who spent the first three years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. He habitually popped up as an offseason winner, but has had problems staying healthy and making a big impact on base offenses.
Still, it’s hard to ignore, right? If Taylor is this good as the fourth receiver at best on the depth chart — and as a primary returner — he could wind up as one of the most impactful additions of the entire offseason.
