Trent Alexander-Arnold responds to Andy Robertson and issues challenge for Liverpool teammate

Andy Robertson claimed his fourth assist of the season in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Manchester City and the left-back was keen to point this out to fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds were winning 1-0 when Robertson produced an inch-perfect cross to find Mohamed Salah who doubled their lead.

The assist took the left-back's tally to four, one more than right-back Alexander-Arnold and the Scottish international was only too happy to inform him.

He tweeted a gif of himself smiling during the game with the caption: "Realising you have more assists than @trentaa98".

Alexander-Arnold made 12 assists last season which was a world record for a defender and one more than Robertson's total of 11.

The right-back quickly reminded his teammate of this, replying: "Come back in May".

The pair are renowned for having a healthy but friendly competition.

Earlier in the season Alexander-Arnold assisted Robertson's goal in the Champions League and tweeted: "Robbo can't get an assist if he's scoring #CleverTrent".

We wouldn't like to place a bet on which defender will finish with the most assists come May but there's bound to be plenty more before the end of the season.
