Trent Alexander-Arnold praises "frightening" young Liverpool duo amid new mentoring role

Trent Alexander-Arnold is excited about the "frightening" potential of two of Liverpool 's most promising stars.

The Reds' right-back is familiar with graduating from unknown academy talent to accomplished star at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold was the breakthrough star several years ago and is already a Premier League and Champions League winner aged just 22.

Now one of the most indispensable members of Jurgen Klopp 's squad, he is performing a mentoring role for the club's young prospects, rather like Jordan Henderson did when Alexander-Arnold was coming through the ranks.

And the full-back has picked out teenagers Harvey Elliot and Kaide Gordon as stars of the future on Merseyside that he has grown close with.

“I’ve wanted to be with them (Elliott and Gordon) like Hendo (Jordan Henderson) was with me — a mentor,” he told The Athletic.

“Hendo tried to lead by example and show me the way. Everything I do is trying to set the example for them, just as Hendo did for me.

“I think I’ve got a really good bond with the pair of them. Kaide has so much potential; it’s frightening, really. Same with Harvey."

Elliot spent a hugely successful season out on loan at Blackburn last season, where he caught the eye by notching seven goals and adding 11 assists for the Championship side.

The 18-year-old has made his mark in pre-season at Anfield and is expected to be afforded his first-team chance by Klopp.

Gordon, meanwhile, arrived from Wayne Rooney's Derby County at the start of the year, and at only 16, is slightly further behind in his development.

But the teenage forward has already impressed in the U18 setup, as well as featuring in pre-season, and could be fast-tracked into a regular role in Klopp's senior squad in the near future.

Alexander Arnold expects Gordon to be modelling his game on Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah as he plots his path to the first-team.

"Kaide will be looking up to Mo (Salah) and trying to pick bits from him," he added. "Because, on and off the pitch, Mo is an outstanding athlete and an outstanding person."
