Trent Alexander-Arnold outlines impact Joe Gomez has had on Liverpool team

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has lauded Joe Gomez for his performances so far this season and has praised his partnership at centre-back with Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez first broke through at Liverpool in the 2016-2017 campaign, but suffered a setback last season when he suffered a fractured leg in a game against Burnley .

He made his return in the Champions League final, however, and appears to now be the first-choice centre-back again along with van Dijk.

He has helped the Reds keep a clean sheet in their last five games in all competitions, and speaking to Liverpool's official website Alexander-Arnold spoke highly of his club and international teammate.

When asked about Gomez's performances Alexander-Arnold said: "Just as solid as anything really. Always there on the cover, always getting the blocks in, his last-ditch tackles are unbelievable.

"The pace and the power that he has is almost like an attacker. He can go toe-for-toe with any attacker and we'd all be confident that he could be faster than them, stronger than them and be able to hold his own.

"For us, that's massive in terms of the confidence that he gives us as a back four and the players in front. It's a great partnership between him and Virg. They have a good bond on and off the pitch, that's something that's important."

Gomez is likely to keep his place when Liverpool face Tottenham on Saturday, and Alexander-Arnold is anticipating a difficult match.

"Obviously we know it's going to be a very, very tough game," he continued. "They've got world-class players all over the pitch, a world-class manager. It's something that we need to be ready for."

Jurgen Klopp has more or less a full first team to choose from against Spurs, with James Milner the only absentee after he suffered a muscle injury during the FA Cup win against Everton .
