Trent Alexander-Arnold message to Liverpool rivals after winning PFA Young Player of the Year award

Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold has issued thanks across the board after being announced as the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2019/20 season.

Alexander-Arnold, who is the first Liverpool player to receive the honour since Steven Gerrard in 2000/01, was announced as the winner following a virtual event on Tuesday evening.

The defender was also crowned in the Team of the Year and issued a classy message to his friends and family as well as those at the academy, before speaking about his pride in receiving the honour.

He said: "First off, I've got to say thanks to my friends and family, to everyone that has helped me achieve this and to get to this point so far. Without them, I wouldn't be able to be here.

"They're the ones that see me after we're beaten, that help me, stay behind me to help me give focus so I've got to give thanks to them.

"Thanks to everyone at the academy who helped me for the 10-12 years that I was there, who taught me everything that I know really, helped me along the way.

"I've spent the majority of my career with the youth life in the academy, day in, day out, so thanks to them people who moulded me into who I am today.

"Thank you to the staff, especially the manager and obviously my teammates, without them none of this would be possible and what we've achieved as a team is unbelievable. Hopefully, there will be many more moments like this.

"These types of awards, when they're voted for by people who have played against you and can maybe admire or respect the things that you do on the pitch is amazing. It's a big thanks for all of them who have voted for me, it's huge for me to have achieved this and it's something I will never forget."
