Trent Alexander-Arnold explains what Man City have that Liverpool want

Trent Alexander-Arnold has warned that Liverpool will feed off their 'underdogs' status as they challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Jurgen Klopp's side finished third last season and were unable to retain the title after an injury-hit campaign.

Losing key figures such as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez saw the Reds' title bid soon lose pace, though the team did recovered well to salvage a top four spot.

Few are predicting Liverpool to return to the summit of the division for the 2021/22 season, with Manchester City and Chelsea being backed by many to battle it out for top spot.

Despite not being fancied to taste success, Alexander-Arnold believes Liverpool can use this in their advantage as the Reds look to prove a point.

"I think that us being kind of the underdogs helps our mentality going into games, knowing it's more of a level playing field. When you do play against the reigning champions, it's kind of a point to prove to beat them," the 22-year-old told BBC Sport.

"This season when we're playing against Man City, we will have that extra motivation of knowing that they have something that we want and they're the team to beat. They're the team that hold the trophy, so they're the ones to beat."

Out of the 20 BBC Sport pundits who delivered their Premier League predictions, not one placed Liverpool at the top of the table.

Fourth place was the most common selection for the Reds, with nine pundits predicting Klopp's side to only just secure a Champions League place.
