Trent Alexander-Arnold explains Kylian Mbappe nod and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's message

Liverpool's homegrown superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the reason behind his Kylian Mbappe inspired goal celebration against Leicester.

Following his strike against the Foxes in December, the right-back celebrated by running to the corner and folding his arms.

This celebration is a nod to Paris Saint-Germain talisman who has made the move famous.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Alexander-Arnold explained: "Mbappe's celebration! It's something I do with my mates... we joke around.

"Obviously I don't score too much, and I was saying for ages that I'd do it when I next scored, and I think it was about three or four months between my two goals, so I'd been planning it for a while!"

Speaking with the BBC in January, the French forward revealed his 'pride' at Alexander-Arnold using his iconic celebration.

Mbappe said: "Yeah, I saw! I'm proud. This guy is amazing."

Alexander-Arnold also opened up on the one message Jurgen Klopp has instilled in this Liverpool team.

The 21-year-old said: "Yeah, because there's no benefit in thinking too far ahead as that's when your focus goes.

"The manager always says the next game is the most important one of your life and that's why we go into the next game thinking anything can happen.

"The quality of every side we come up against means if we are just at 95% then we'll be beaten, which is why we have to be at 100%."

On the prospect of winning the Premier League, Alexander-Arnold added: "Obviously it's something you dream of.

"At a club like Liverpool, where it's eluded us for so long, it would stay with the fans for a very long time, but the closer you get to it, the less you think about it, because it's more of a reality and you can't get caught up in the hype."
