Trent Alexander-Arnold concedes he 'doesn't think he's a really good footballer'

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has clearly not given into the hype and admits he "doesn't think he's a really good footballer".

The academy graduate is convinced there is still more to come despite becoming an integral figure at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold has reached two Champions League finals, winning one, and will almost certainly be a Premier League winner in the coming months.

His influence from right-back has been hailed by those within the game but the 21-year-old concedes he has a long way to go yet.

He told GQ : "I don’t think I ever knew that I’d be a really good footballer. I wouldn’t think now that I’m a really good footballer.

"I’d say I haven’t reached full potential at all. I’m not where I need to be and where I can be. So there’s no point putting a label on it, in my mind.

"I still have a lot of improvement to do. Growing up, there were always indications of it, but, for me, it was just about playing every game.

"I wanted to win every game. It was never me thinking, 'I’m put on the planet and I have to be a footballer,' it was more just every day going to train and wanting to win and wanting to be as competitive as possible."

Alexander-Arnold played as a midfielder when he was rising through the ranks at Melwood.

He switched to a more defensive role but the distribution he learned has certainly not left him.

The youngster and fellow fullback Andy Robertson have been engrossed in a competition over who can provide the most assists for several seasons.

Last term Alexander-Arnold pipped his Scottish team-mate by registered 12 to his 11.

This season he has really asserted his authority though with 12 assists putting him five ahead of Robertson.
