Trent Alexander-Arnold absence explained as Liverpool team confirmed vs Crystal Palace

Jurgen Klopp has made six changes for the visit of Crystal Palace as Trent Alexander-Arnold misses out entirely.

The right-back is absent with what has been described as illness and is expected to feature for next week's trip to Brentford.

“It was one [team change] we weren’t expecting," said Klopp.

"Trent woke up this morning and wasn’t feeling well so we had to send him home. It’s not Covid, though, to be clear.”

James Milner deputises in his place with Kostas Tsimikas named in place of Andy Robertson on the left side of the defence. Joel Matip is rested.

Ibrahima Konate, who is yet to play a minute since his £36million move from RB Leipzig in July, makes his Liverpool debut alongside a returning Virgil van Dijk, who sat out Wednesday's 3-2 win over AC Milan.

That makes it an entirely different back four to the one that beat the Rossoneri in the Champions League.

In midfield, captain Jordan Henderson is named alongside Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara for just the second time as the latter marks his first-year anniversary of becoming a Liverpool player.

Sadio Mane returns to the side up top alongside Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah as the Senegal international closes in on 100 goals for Liverpool in all competitions.

Liverpool: Alisson; Milner, Van Dijk, Konate, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Mane, Jota.

Subs: Kelleher, Keita, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Robertson, Origi, Phillips.
