There was a lot to take away from that Oprah interview
Not least America’s own TV queen spotted clutching a takeaway carton of eggs from California’s newest cult organic establishment: Archie’s Chick Inn (est. 2021).
What the cluck are you talking about?
In the midst of nearly two hours of dramatic revelations Meghan donned her wellies and took Oprah on a tour of her new garden and chicken sanctuary. Here we were treated to a view of a large, gabled coop painted barn red.
Sounds like they’re embracing the lockdown zeitgeist
Indeed. So many people have started keeping chickens in the pandemic that there are now months-long wait lists for hens and chicken coops like Archie’s. As Meghan said, it’s a mark of the couple’s new “authentic” lifestyle, duh.
If the waiting lists are that long, how did they acquire this flock of fancy fowl without calling in a few royal favours?

What about the CEO of Archie’s Chick Inn?
Somewhat ironically, young Archie’s chicken keeping has a royal precedent. His great, great, great, great, great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, was given seven Cochin chickens brought from China in 1842 after the first Opium War. Delighted by their slender profiles and glossy feathers, she commissioned a grand “fowl-house” where she enjoyed taking tea and admiring her birds. She sent the deep brown eggs to her family across Europe and started a craze for fancy chickens in America.
