Residents of Hassan and neighbouring taluks experienced a low-intensity earthquake of 2.3 magnitude on Friday evening. The tremors were felt in Hassan city, several villages around Halebidu in Belur taluk and a few villages in Arsikere taluk. There were no reports of any casualty or damage to property.
The earthquake was recorded at Rayapura in Salagame hobli of Hassan taluk at 5.32 p.m., with its epicentre at a depth of 2 km, according to information from the Karnataka Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre.
Many people in Hassan city came out of their residence as they felt tremors for a couple of seconds. They called up media offices and the police. After receiving reports of people panicking, Hassan district administration sought a report from the KSNDMC.
