Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to Diego Simeone's comments after he claimed that Kieran Trippier will have to decide whether he leaves Atletico Madrid to join the Magpies.
It is reported that the Toon are in advanced negotiations with Trippier's representatives over a deal for the right-back and sources in Spain have also stated that he is "expected to leave" early in the January window.
However, a fee must be agreed by the La Liga side to release him and Newcastle will have to make Trippier the highest-paid player at St James' Park.
The England international has 18 months left on his current deal at Atletico but there is a reported £34m release clause in his contract that could be met this month.
However, Simeone believes that Trippier will have to make his own mind up on his future and admitted that Atletico will base their decision on what he wants to do.
“Speaking in his pre-match press conference before his side's game against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday night, Simeone said: "Trippier now has to decide if he wants to leave or not.
"We will move on his decision."
Trippier made the move to the Spanish giants from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2019 and he has impressed, making 83 appearances across all competitions and also helped Atletico to the La Liga title last season.
This is set to be the Saudi-led owners' first signing since the takeover was completed in October and it's safe to say the Magpies faithful would be delighted to get this one over the line.
Following Simeone's comments on Saturday, Newcastle fans have been reacting to the news and the vast majority seemed to be pleased, with one supporter saying he will be 'adored' in the North East.
