Tremayne Anchrum Jr.: Rams will ‘be just fine’ with Coleman Shelton at center

The Rams’ offensive line suffered a significant blow in Week 1. Brian Allen injured his knee and will miss 2-4 weeks, leaving Los Angeles without its starting center.

Coleman Shelton will move from right guard to center and Tremayne Anchrum Jr. will step in as the starting right guard, giving the Rams a new look on the interior for the next few weeks.

Anchrum spoke to the media on Monday ahead of his first career start, and he’s very confident in the offensive line with Shelton at center. Anchrum shared some great insight on what he learns from Shelton and what makes him a very good lineman on the inside.

“It’s like having a coach on the field. The guy’s incredibly smart. He’s super athletic. He’s very technical. The guy thinks three, four steps ahead,” Anchrum said. “I think having him on my team, playing next to him is such an advantage for me, just being able to soak up information from him like a sponge, being able to watch his techniques. Coleman’s not the heaviest guy but when Coleman’s out there and he’s playing, he’s sharp on his technique. He’s very diligent in his body positions. He’s always in the right positions and you can really take a lot from that when you take how he looks at the game and apply it to how you play, a lot of good things come. Sad what happened to Brian but we’re gonna be just fine with Coleman at center.”

Anchrum said he’s “really excited” to be making his first start, adding that he “worked really hard” to play anywhere on the offensive line, from guard to offensive tackle. That versatility is coming in handy now with Allen out, giving him an opportunity to step in at guard.
