Motorists are advised to avoid Brown Mountain on the Snowy Mountain Highway as it was temporarily closed due to debris on the road.
A fallen tree and rock slide nearby the Fred Piper Memorial Lookout has affected traffic flow in both directions, as the highway has now been reduced to one lane.
Police have been on scene since midday and road crews are working to clear the road.
Monaro Police District acting inspector Ben Bowles said the clean up would likely continue into the evening.
"Due to heavy rain and storm activity in that area there has been a landslide on the Snowy Mountain Highway," he said.
"The highway was briefly closed but there is a contraflow in place, however, we're advising motorists to avoid the area if they can."
The incident occurred between Nimmitabel and Bemboka, those travelling south from Canberra are advised of delays.
Inspector Bowles said there had been no one injured in the landslide and no vehicles were damaged.
The highway was blocked for more than 48 hours in February following a similar incident believed to be the result of wet weather.
