Tree brought down during violent thunderstorm which struck Nottinghamshire

Part of a tree was brought down in West Bridgford after the county was rocked by a violent thunderstorm last night.

The Met Office had issued a 'yellow' warning for thunderstorms across Britain after temperatures soared to 30 degrees Celsius and above on Tuesday, July 23.

It stated there was a "small chance" properties, homes and businesses could be damaged by lighting strikes and strong winds.

Lighting flashed across the sky at around 2am on July 24, and pictures show how a tree in Wilford Lane succumbed to the wild weather.

The yellow thunderstorm warning is still in place and temperatures are set to hit highs of 28 degrees today (July 24), the Met Office said.

On Thursday, July 25, temperatures in the county could hit a further high of 35 degrees Celsius as the country braces itself ahead of a heatwave.
