Treble treble feat on the cards as goal hungry Irvine Meadow ace relishes new role

Mick Wardrope waited forever for one hat-trick – now he’s not ruling out bagging THREE in as many weeks.

The Irvine Meadow midfielder followed up a career-first treble against Kilwinning Rangers with another against Cumbernauld last Saturday.

A brilliant array of finishes in both matches just goes to show how sky high the 24-year-old’s confidence is right now.

Wardrope admits a new licence to push forward has given him a fresh lease of life.

And the former Ayr United starlet admits he’s got the taste for more goals as he looks to continue a hot streak of form with a trip to WoSFL Premier bottom dogs Bonnyton on the horizon this weekend.

He said: “Hopefully I can keep it going. When I got the second goal (against Cumbernauld) I had a wee feeling it was just meant to be.

“The formation has changed the last couple of weeks. I’m playing more further forward in the three.

“I’m enjoying it and I feel like it’s getting the best out of me.”

And when asked what the odds on another Wardrope hat-trick this weekend would be, he smiled: “A good week at training this week and we’ll see what happens.”

Meadow co-boss Colin Spence insists there's no way his side will treat Bonnyton lightly.

He said: "We’re always wary of teams struggling a wee bit because they’ll win eventually."

And on Wardrope he added: "Mick's a kind of off-the-cuff player.

"It's just trying to get that right balance in the midfield that you can allow him to push on a wee bit and you don't need to worry too much about his defensive responsibilities.

"He's a real goal threat. You see the way he bursts forward. He's quite deceptive how quick he can be over 10 yards.

"He's just flying with confidence just now."
