Thailand's water management and wastewater treatment sectors are expected to grow by 10% annually, driven by new investment flows from both the public and private sectors, says event organiser UBM Asia Thailand.
"The government has budgeted US$2.6 billion (82.6 billion baht) towards wastewater treatment plants for 93 communities in the next couple of years," said Sanchai Noombunnam, deputy managing director for events. "The Wastewater Management Authority has also provided a budget of $200 million for 48 construction and rehabilitation projects in this sector over the next four years."
Mr Sanchai said the Industry Ministry passed many laws requiring private plants and factories to comply with the installation of pre-treatment water systems before discharging wastewater into their main sewage systems.
These regulations are meant to preserve natural water resources and each factory can reduce their investment costs, so many companies are looking at new water reuse systems.
Commercial properties must install wastewater treatment systems to comply with the laws.
"Water management and wastewater are crucial to all sectors, especially in Southeast Asia as countries move towards industrial development and future industries," Mr Sanchai said. "We need to accelerate society's knowledge of water and wastewater management measures in parallel with efficient management of water resources."
UBM Asia will hold the fifth Thai Water Expo 2019 on June 5-8 at Bitec.
The event will integrate exhibitions and conferences on water and wastewater management in the region and showcase technology and innovation to respond to demand from the public and private sectors.
