Tre Flowers expected to return for Seahawks in Week 9

The Seattle Seahawks were without cornerback Tre Flowers on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, forced to turn to a combination of Akeem King and Neiko Thorpe to take over in his absence.

While Carroll praised King’s performance, the stats tell a different story. According to Pro Football Focus, King earned an overall grade of 42.7, giving up seven receptions on seven targets for 131 yards.

Fortunately, it sounds like Flowers’ absence will not be a prolonged one, as Carroll indicated on Monday that he is already back to playing shape.

“He feels a lot better today,” Carroll said. “I think he made the comment that if we were playing tonight, he could play. We thought he could get through it and have a chance. He’s that much better. He’s pretty optimistic. He should be okay to work all week long and give himself another chance to be back.”

Flowers has recorded 34 solo tackles and one interception on the season, and while his 54.1 overall grade leaves something to be desired it’s clear he’s growing into a strong contributor at cornerback, a position he is still new at after playing safety in college.

The Seahawks are lacking depth on the outside cornerback spots, so having a healthy Flowers opposite star Shaquill Griffin is a huge boost for this team going forward as they look to build upon their strong 6-2 start.
