Career Stats

Mullen came into the 2018 season surrounded by hype and anointed the leader of Clemson’s secondary. He responded to the challenge by exceeding all expectations, especially when it mattered the most in the National Championship game against Alabama.

36 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, three passes defensed, two sacks and one interception in 2018 isn’t anything to be impressed by, but there wasn’t a ton of action to his side of the field.

Mullen has the foot quickness and long speed to stay hip-to-hip with receivers up and down the field, maintaining body position. He has some issues with transitions, leading to spacing issues, and will take some lumps in the NFL while he adjusts to that level of route running. He also has room to improve his consistency with his diagnose skills.

Overall, Mullen will have some struggles with sophisticated route runners, and needs to refine some of his game, but he has the length, athleticism, physicality, press skills, play speed and disruptive timing at the catch point that make him an attractive development prospect.
