Travis Scott removes mystery phone number from Instagram after AstroWorld tragedy

Travis Scott added a phone number to one of his social media accounts without any explanation, but then later removed it altogether.

The singer recently held a concert in which eight people were killed in a crowd surge, at the Astroworld festival in Texas, United States.

The rapper, visibly upset, said afterwards: "I’m honestly just devastated.

"We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time."

There are currently two criminal investigations into the event and over 30 lawsuits looking into what happened and social media site TikTok were forced to take down baseless conspiracy theories claiming that the deaths were part of a satanic ritual.

Scott then posted a number on to the bio of his Instagram account on November 9. So what was the number for?

Travis added the number 844-950-6264, which is for people to ring a free therapy hotline if they have been affected directly or indirectly by the AstroWorld tragedy.

For those affected, they will be directed to the National Alliance Mental Illness (NAMI) hotline, where they will be able to immediately speak to a well-trained team.

NAMI said: "A well-trained and knowledgeable team of volunteers, interns and HelpLine staff responds to calls and email inquiries. Staff members and volunteers have experience living with a mental health condition or providing care and support to a family member with a condition, and therefore, better able understand and empathize."

Scott has also partnered with BetterHelp, a mental health service. They are providing a partnership with Scott to give one month of free therapy to the festival attendees.

This move was not well-received by a number of people on social media who criticised it as a 'brand partnership'.

Meanwhile, Scott also agreed to pay the funeral costs of the victims.

The wrong number

Scott originally posted the wrong number on to his Instagram profile.

When people called the original number, it appeared to belong to a government agency.

Those who rang the number were met with an automated voice that said: "For billing, customer service, government assistance, or the offices of Social Security, press one.

"If you are under the age of 65 and interested in health insurance, press two. If you are over the age of 65 and interested in Medicare, press three. For all other inquiries, press four."

Others experienced what they believed to several different scams.

The number was later corrected the actual NAMI hotline number. Currently, no number is featured in the rapper's profile.
