Travis Scott speaks out on festival stampede saying he ‘could never imagine severity’

Travis Scott has made a desperate appeal for witnesses to step forward to share evidence following a fatal festival performance on Friday which left eight dead and hundreds more injured as he claims he could never have imagined the disaster.

The 29-year-old musician was left devastated when crowds rushed the stage at Astroworld Festival in Texas on Friday causing a stampede that crushed eight people to death an injured many more.

Travis continued to perform for at least 30 minutes during the tragedy despite the crowd chanting for him to stop as he was unaware the disaster was unfolding before his very eyes.

Now speaking out about the incident, Travis – who shares a daughter with reality star Kylie Jenner and has another child on the way with her – explained how he could never imagine the devastation that unfolded at the event.

"We are working right now to identify their families so we can help assist them through this tough time.

"I could just never imaging the severity of the situation."

Appealing for help getting information from those who were there, he continued: "We’ve been working closely with everyone to just try to get to the bottom of this. The city of Houston, HPD fire department, everyone to help us figure this out.

"If you have any information, please just contact the local authorities."

He added: "Everybody continue to just keep your prayers.

"I mean, I’m honestly just devastated and I could never imagine anything like this happening. I’m going to do everything I can to keep you guys updated. To keep you guys informed on what’s going on. I love you all."

While eight people have been confirmed dead following Friday's disaster – including two teenagers – reports have suggested as many as 300 other were injured at the event.

Police have claimed a man injected security with drugs before a number of fans stormed into the festival grounds, igniting the fatal stampeded.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said on Saturday: "One of the narratives was that some individual was injecting other people with drugs.

"We do have a report of a security officer, according to the medical staff that was out and treated him last night.

"He was reaching over to restrain or grab a citizen and he felt a prick in his neck.

"He went unconscious, they administered Narcan. He was revived, and medical staff did notice a prick similar to a prick you would get if somebody was trying to inject."

Travis had previously broken his silence on the tragedy in a note posted to social media reading: "I am absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.

"Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into this tragic loss of life.

"I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and the NRG Park for their immediate response and support."

It has been reported that 11 people were taken to hospital while suffering cardiac arrests after the incident at the two day festival – which happened at 9pm on Friday.
