Travis Perkins to relocate Cheltenham branch to low-carbon site and create jobs

Builders’ merchant Travis Perkins is set to relocate one of its branches in Gloucestershire to a larger site, and has created two jobs.

The chain will open at a new premises in Mead Road in Cheltenham on November 29 next door to its previous location, which it traded from for more than 50 years.

The new branch is 2.5 acres in size and will have a heavy goods yard set to be completed in March 2022.

The construction material supplier has added two full-time members of staff, taking the headcount at its Leckhampton base to 20.

The outlet will also be one of the company’s low-carbon sites, as it seeks to reduce carbon emissions output across its operations. It will be equipped with charging points for its fleet of electric forklift trucks, solar panels and heat source pumps.

The store will include a showroom for the group’s Benchmarx kitchen brand, a new plumbing, heating and bathroom range, a tool hire service and a hard landscaping display. Customers will be able to collect products ordered online from the store.

Branch manager Sean Watson said: “After occupying the previous site for over 50 years, this relocation means we can upgrade and accommodate more customers, better serve the local community and offer a modern working environment for our colleagues.

“The fact that this is a low-carbon branch is something I’m really proud of – we want to support anything that is beneficial to the community and the environment.”

Travis Perkins also has a base off Tewksbury Road in Cheltenham, with a network of 560 branches and 300 tool-hire outlets across the UK.

The FTSE 250 firm, which acquired retailer Toolstation in 2014, recently reported a “strong performance” for Q3 in a trading update, in which it upgraded its adjusted operating profit to £340m for the full year 2021.

The company’s chief executive Nick Roberts said the firm had navigated supply chain and cost inflation challenges “very capably”.
